One of the most frequent questions we get asked on our Tik Tok (which is blowing up, thank you kindly), is "What do the photos look like?"
We generally refer to them as "film-style" and you can probably draw your own definition from that, but there's a lot more to this style of photography than meets the eye. The official title is "lomography", which has been growing in popularity in recent years as disposable and polaroid cameras (and now Paper Shoot) have been taking over the market. The term originally came from Lomography Cameras.
The style is laid-back and neglects perfectionism; it involves taking spontaneous photos with little attention to technical detail and admiring the beauty of whatever lands in the shot, perfect or not. It's capturing a feeling or a moment without wondering if you've just violated a cardinal rule of photography in the process.
To take lomography style photos, you just need to have fun -don't worry about getting the perfect studio lighting or getting the perfect angle. You don't even need to think. Just explore the shot, lighting, filters, and composure. You don't even need to know what you've captured until after you capture it. This style encourages spontaneity and capturing beautiful moments on a whim.
After key indicators of lomography are things like light leaks, cool or dramatic hues, vignette, and highly saturated colours. If it looks like it's been shot on a film camera from the 80's, it's probably lomography. A lot of people even edit their photos to look like lomography! Even on our Tik Tok, we get folks wondering if we've done any retouching to our photos, but Paper Shoot is just THAT good.
So who exactly is into lomography, and is it something you think you'd like to try? Lomography is great for artists, creatives, and those who aren't interested in perfection. If snatching an unpredictable, spontaneous shot that looks like it came straight out of your parent's photo album, then lomography could be an awesome style for you to try!
Paper Shoot has a wide collection of cameras that are perfect for taking amazing lomography photos that will for sure make all of your friends jealous as they putter around on Lightroom for hours trying to get that perfect film look. In addition to taking great photos, Paper Shoot cameras are eco friendly and also have a ton of interchangeable cases that will assist in your artistic journey.
Have fun and happy shooting!
